I’m an Omaha native and a graduate of Central High School and UNO’s Business Finance Program. After college graduation, I served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years before retiring in 2007 as a Lt Colonel. My wife Charlotte and I have raised five amazing kids while living in Papillion, and I’ve continued to serve the Air Force as a civil service employee for the past 13 years. Along the way, I earned a Master's Degree from the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) and ran a highly successful photography business from 2004-2019, where I served as the photographer for all youth sports within Papillion and La Vista.
I started my real estate business with one primary goal: To continue my lifelong commitment to serve my community. I have brought to my business my commitment to the Air Force Core Values, deeply ingrained in me after 33 years of service:

I have established the following Mission Statement for my business: "Providing world-class customer service, responsiveness, education, and advice so that my clients can make the best possible decisions for their situation."
My commitment to my clients is that I will:
- Listen first, advise second.
- Respond immediately to all requests.
- Base all decisions on what's best for my client, not what's best for me personally.
I pride myself on being "relentlessly competent." It is my core belief that the job of a real estate professional is not "sales," but rather that of being an effective educator and expert advisor for all my clients. I enjoy sharing my life experiences with my clients to help provide the advice needed so they can make decisions that result in outstanding outcomes.
As a military member who PCS’d 10 times in 20 years (and bought and sold 4 homes along the way), I can definitely relate to the anxiety and uncertainty military members face having to relocate to an unfamiliar part of the country, or having to sell a home quickly in order to move a family together to a next assignment. I’ve “been there, done that,” and would love to help alleviate that stress for my military brothers and sisters!
For my remote clients who can't house-hunt personally, I can provide high-resolution video walk-throughs of any homes of interest, and I can provide the expert analysis to help assure my clients that they are making a good decision when they purchase a home remotely (which I realize can be a terrifying experience!).
One other "perk" associated with my real estate business is that I'm able to provide absolutely free professional family portraits each year to all of my clients. This enables me to combine my love of portrait photography with my drive to provide unmatched customer service to all my clients, and has proven to be extremely popular! I provide family portrait images back to my clients digitally (for use on Facebook or Christmas cards) and also make a framed 8x10 print for my clients each year!
In order to continue to provide unparalleled support to my clients in 2020, I have created "The Nelson Team" and taken on my first team member, Jeremiah Johnson, a Navy Veteran who shares my values, beliefs, and passion for providing world-class service to all our clients.
