Transfer of Utilities
Generally utility transfers are set up for closing day about a week prior to the closing. Sellers should call each utility company and tell them to transfer as of the date of closing or possession, whichever is first, and provide the company with their forwarding information for the final bill. Once the sellers have completed the notice to the utility company, the buyers should then call each utility and give them the updated information to complete the transfer. Some transfers can be done online and others must be done via phone call. Be sure to ask your REALTOR® for any additional information that may be needed for your area.
