The average person moves about 12 times over the course of their life, so you likely have been through the ringer a couple of times already. However, no matter how familiar you are with the process, moving is always an ordeal that it's important to make it easier for you and your family.

Here, we're going to give you some awesome expert packing tips to simplify your move. Read on for a smoother transition than ever before!

1. Kondo Your Clothes

There are a couple of ways that you can pack clothes to make them take up as little space as possible. The first is to fold each article in half and tightly roll it into a cylinder. This is ideal for boxing up clothes, but it has a downside: your apparel will all be very wrinkled when you unpack it.

Luckily, Marie Kondo has come up with a foolproof way to fold clothing into small bundles and keep it unwrinkled. Fold the item in half (vertically) before folding it into horizontal thirds. Then fold it in half one final time and pack it away.

2. Store Things Inside Other Things

Everyone has a few mugs, vases, and bowls that they love, and bringing these items along for a move is a no-brainer. To make the most of your space, you can fold washcloths and put them into these cups. You can also insert small trinkets or jewelry, essentially using these container-like items as transport boxes.

If you have small breakable items and need to protect them, consider wrapping them in bubble wrap or packing paper before putting them into a mug. This will prevent them from jostling around and breaking (or from scratching and denting the mug.)

3. Eliminate the Easily Replaceable

Many people find themselves trying to take literally everything that they own with them when they move. In reality, this isn't such a good idea- it wastes time, space, energy, and money. If an item is easily replaceable, such as a cheap picture frame or chair, you don't need to take it with you. Shipping it to yourself will cost more than just purchasing a new one.

Don't try to take everything you have. Try to take everything you need instead.

4. Disassemble and Reassemble

If you have a desk or dresser that you're fond of, it's likely that you'll try to put it into a Uhaul while it's still assembled and in one piece. However, most of these items can be taken apart for easier transit. Remove drawers from chests (and store things in them) and take the legs off your favorite desk. You can reattach them when you get to your new home.

Doing this also has the added benefit of making large objects easier to carry. You won't need to painstakingly haul heavy furniture up flights of stairs anymore!

5. Use Totes

When moving from a home, or office, reusable Eco-friendly totes just make sense. Locally owned, Monster Totes, is a great resource for those in Omaha and Lincoln. These totes have handles w/lids, stackable, and rent by the week. Monster Totes is regularly used by area realtors at Nebraska Realty.
